As we step into the last part of July 2023, here is an update, accompanied by refreshing rains in Bengaluru. I wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with an update on my blogging challenge. I must admit that I am significantly behind in terms of both the number of blog posts and word count, I am committed to improving my content. Quick Summary: In 6 weeks, I published 24 posts ( original target: 45), and 24,100 words published (original target: 45,000).
Summary for those pressed for time
I must admit fallingbehind in terms of the number of blog posts and word count. However, I have chosen to prioritize quality over quantity. I have been dedicating my time to improving my existing posts by updating material, images, and checking links for better readability. I have also created a separate subdomain, where I will primarily write about technology-related subjects. This decision allows me to focus on my main blog’s core categories such as travel, podcasting, writing, and sustainability. The migration of certain topics to the new subdomain has been an interesting experiment.
Introduction
In the Mid-June update, I mentioned that I am focusing on enhancing my old posts by updating material, images, checking links, and optimizing content for better readability. This time, the main update is, that I have also decided to create a separate subdomain, called notes.amarvyas.in. This blog will be dedicated to technology-related subjects.
By bifurcating my blogs, I will be able to focus on specific categories such as podcasting, writing, and sustainability on this site, while migrating other topics over to the new site.
WordCount and Writing Goals
Below is the “Report card” from my blog publishing:
Target | Achieved | |
---|---|---|
Blog Posts | 45 | 24 |
Word Count | 45,000 | 24,100 |
Percent Achieved | 53% | 53% |
I have fallen short of my targets for blog post quantity and word count. However, I firmly believe in the importance of quality over quantity when it comes to blogging. I can massage the bad news by giving explanations like:
- Over 30 blog posts were refreshed, which are not counted
- I have over 12 posts ready to be published
However, they fall under the “Dog ate my blog posts” category. I had set a specific goal(s), and I am yet to achieve the targets. But in the process, I have learnt a very important lessons, which I mention below,
Slow and Steady Progress
Instead of hastily producing subpar content, I have chosen to dedicate time and effort to revamping my existing posts also. By adding updated material, refreshing images, and ensuring all links are live, I aim to provide my readers with the best possible experience. It is a meticulous process, but one that I believe will enhance the overall value of my blog.
During the process, I also realized that managing seven different categories on my primary blog was becoming tedious. To streamline the content and maintain a focused approach, I decided to create a separate subdomain, which would be dedicated to technology-related topics. This bifurcation allows me to concentrate on my core interests, including podcasting, writing, and sustainability, on this blog. The migration of web hosting, imaging, AI technology, and content delivery network discussions to the new blog domain has been an intriguing experiment, providing me with valuable insights and experiences.More on that in a separate post.
Conclusion
In conclusion, though I am lagging behind in terms of blog post quantity and word count, I am actively working on improving my existing content. By dedicating time to enhance the quality and user experience of my posts, I believe I can provide valuable and engaging content to my readers. Additionally, the creation of a separate subdomain, notes.amarvyas.in, for technology-related subjects has allowed me to streamline my primary blog’s focus and concentrate on specific categories of interest.
