This post on performance benchmark of greencloud vps storage server was originally published in December 2021. Back then, following black Friday deal in 2021, I had taken a three-year subscription for Greencloud VPS in Singapore. An offer was posted by them on Low and talk. I had run bench.monster script back, then, in 2024 I ran YABS – Yet Another Benchmarking Script on this server. My aim was to test to see if there was any change in the performance of this particular server over time.

I asked Perplexityai to compare the results of the two benchmarks. And provide analysis- has the performance of the server changed over time? Of interest was comparison of the following:
a. Disk fio read/ write speeds, specifically, 64k, iper3 average speed, and Geekbench 4 results.
b. Comment on any changes in Processor and RAM.

Analysis and Comments
The comparison of the server’s performance over time shows a significant decrease in disk read/write speeds and Geekbench 4 scores. The disk speed has dropped from an average of 654.0 MB/s in 2021 to around 80 MB/s for both read and write operations in 2024. This could be due to hardware degradation, increased I/O wait times, or changes in the storage subsystem.The Geekbench 4 results also show a decline, with the single-core score decreasing from 3511 to 2779 and the multi-core score from 3422 to 2705. This drop could be attributed to the aging of the processor, thermal throttling, or other hardware-related issues.It is not uncommon to see a drop in performance over time due to hardware wear and tear, software inefficiencies, or changes in the system’s configuration.
