Introduction: Relaunch of this site and blog
Welcome to the new and improved website for this blog which is my writing website. My author website is now amarvyas.in . You may wonder why there are two different sites. The reason for that is simple.
Today is March 9 2020. It’s a festival of Holi. So first of all, wishing you a very Happy Holi.
History of this blog
Back in 2014, hen I first created my author website, I began my blogging journey by registering this domain. Time permitting, I might add some screenshots from that era, hopefully wayback machine will have them.
Back then it was a plain jane WordPress site hosted on a shared hosting plan of GoDaddy. It was a WordPress site with a rather interesting Nanica theme that we purchased off of theme forest site. Prior to that, I had created my blog on wordpress.com. And it was known as NRIthebookblog.wordpress.com.
Toward the end of 2017, I actually stopped using this domain, and for a year, this domain was sitting idle. In the meantime I purchased the amarvyas.com domain, and planned to set it up as my primary auto website. For about one year, the amarvyas.in domain was actually available online!
My concern was that sombody else might squat or mis-use this domain. Therefore, I decided to register this domain again, and set up this site. After much thought, and experimentation, I decided to split the two domains as follows:
Author website was to be amarvyas.com
My blog was to be amarvyas.in
Other ideas included redirecting this domain to the main.com domain.Or using this domain as a landing page for something else. Maybe a future book!
I also considered creating a single page site for portfolio showcase or for MyKitaab podcast. With these ideas in mind, I decided why not use this domain and the site as a blog, based on our lightweight content management system..My aim was to write down my thoughts and publish, instead of managing WordPress and the bells and whistles that come with it. My goal is to write every day, on this site. More on that later.
Going Forward: Goals for this Blog
My goal is to publish one blog post every day for atleast 45 days. As a stretch goal, I might extend this to a 100 day blogging challgenge. I have tried this a couple of times in the past with limited success.
There are a couple of reasons why I feel things will work out this time around. First of all, I am using otter.ai speech to text for recording my thoughts, which really makes the process of putting your ideas much easier. At a minimum, less cumbersome.
Secondly, I can record. Two, or possibly three posts, at a time. That way, I can build up a good inventory over a short period of time. So far I have recorded four shows. This is the first post, to be published.
Finally, the choice of a lightweight content management system posed a problem of plenty I tried Bludit, OctoberCMS and Datenstrom yellow. I also tried to use Grav a few times, but kept getting “Twig Errors” and I finally gave up.
Update: From May 2021 onwards, this blog is hosted on a separate subdomain, and uses WordPress as Content Management System. So much for trying to use a lightweight CMS!
